[two_third_last]Being out in the elements as much as I am, you can imagine what strong feelings I have regarding stewardship for planet earth. Between my passion for scuba diving and my professional fotographic endeavors, I truly am always in that intersection of Ocean and Earth.
Having followed the career of Yvonne Chouinard (founder Patagonia) for many years, I was introduced to a great organization called 1% for the Planet. Yvonne along with Craig Matthews (owner of Blue Ribbon Flies – which I spent many summers at in my younger years fly fishing Yellowstone and surrounding areas) understand that it’s good business to protect the natural resources that kept them in business.
Founded in 2002, 1% for the Planet has grown into a global movement of more than 1200 member companies in 48 countries, all donating at least 1% of annual sales to sustainability initiatives. In just over 10 years 1% for the Planet companies have given more than $100 million.
I am proud to say that 2013 was the first year that Henthorne Art Foto donated 1% of our gross sales to nonprofit organizations that are truly focused on protecting our planet. Contributions were just made and the recipients this year were Reef Relief (based in Florida) as well as California based Save Our Shores[/two_third_last]
